I have taken several groups of college students to the Island of Coll (Inner Hebrides) in recent years - culminating in the publication of a short paper on the breeding gulls. In 1993 I took(a party of students to Bordeaux University's Mountain Ecology research station in the Pyrenees to study mountain ecology. In 1994 I organised and led a one month reciprocal study exchange scheme with a Polish school. This exchange was funded by a TEMPUS grant from Brussels and focused on the broader aspects of Ecological awareness and education. Over Easter 1996 I was involved in a similar exchange with a Sicilian school. Here we studied the Biology and Geology of Etna. This exchange was supported by a LINGUA grant. Since taking early retirement I have continued this interest - most recently with Norwegian students in 1999.
